Sophia Bloxham
Sophia Bloxham is a London-based artist and illustrator designing and creating a range of bespoke pieces including hand pressed Lino cut prints and intricately painted watercolours. Her work combines her love of flora, fauna and vintage style, and her practice promotes a passion for environmental issues and positive wellbeing.
Inspired by walks in nature and her local parks and gardens, Sophia works from home sketching out ideas using photographs taken on her outings. These are then carved into Lino cuts which she prints by hand in bright colours, often adding metallic elements. She also works in watercolour painting detailed animal, food and botanical illustrations with contemporary twist.
Sophia graduated from University College Falmouth in 2009 with a degree in Illustration and has worked in a variety of creative roles over the past ten years. Her career has included gallery work, visual merchandising, mural design and working as a creative assistant to renowned British contemporary artists.
Sophia has continued to create and exhibit her own work alongside her full-time roles, working on commissions and selling at galleries, markets and to private clients.
During the 2020 lockdown Sophia has spent much of her time at home, allowing her to experiment with materials, develop new ideas and styles, and really reflect upon her work and its direction.
“Having spent much of this year really focusing on my creativity and developing my practice, I have been able to produce an exciting body of work that can be enjoyed by others. I have received a lot of interest and positive feedback. I now feel ready to grow that passion into a lifelong dream of having my own creative business.”
Sophia is also committed to protecting wildlife and promoting the benefits of nature from which she gets so much of her inspiration. She is always working to make her products sustainable and eco-friendly, by choosing recycled and environmentally friendly materials and packaging, sourced from small and independent businesses where possible.
